To mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain this 1969 film is being shown with the great music composed by William Walton, and conducted by Malcolm Arnold, the rejection of which by Hollywood, in favour of a pedestrian score by Ron Goodwin, marred the original release of the film.
The restoration of the original score (amazingly recovered from tapes preserved in the sound technician's garage) greatly enhances the impact of this accurate account of one of the most dramatic turning points in British history. Supported by a stellar cast and incorporating some superb shots of aerial combat created with real veteran aircraft before computer simulation was available.
