Date: Sunday 30th September
Location: The Assembly Rooms
Event Duration: 2 hours with interval
Come back in time and immerse yourself in life at the picture palace a century ago.
This interesting, educational and atmospheric journey through the early silent movie scene is presented in costume by David Cleveland and Nigel Lister. Watch comedies, newsreels, animation and drama shown at the cinema between 1907 and 1912 - with authentic piano accompaniment and short explanations.
The films are shown using a restored 1912 35mm motion picture film projector from the Cinema at Southwold, Suffolk, and the presenters will hand-crank through new 35mm film copies of silent films released between 1907-1912.
Refreshments will be available before the performance and during the interval.
"No one present will forget the charming demonstration of English eccentricity we witnessed from David Cleveland and Nigel Lister. Entertainment and education at its best but an example of a few enthusiasts saving and restoring and devoting their time and energy for film heritage. We owe them a great debt."
