The sequel and continuance of the story and film, Jean de Florette. Now a beautiful young shepherdess living in the idyllic Provencal countryside, Manon, Florette's daughter, is looking for revenge.
The second of Claude Berri's films, based on the stories of Marcel Pagnol, begins ten years later. Manon (Emmanuelle Beart) is now a shepherdess who prefers to keep her distance from the local villagers. She is determined to uncover the truth behind what happened in her childhood and to wreak vengeance on the men she holds responsible: Soubeyran (Yves Montand) and his nephew Ugolin (Danile Auteil). The more sympathetic of the two men, Ugolin, is in love with Manon, but this does not weaken her resolve. When she finds out that many villagers knew what had happened in her childhood but did nothing to help she blocks their water supply with desperate consequences.
If tickets are purchased for both Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources, the ticket price is £7.50 for both films.
Refreshments will be available before the performance and during the interval.
"The meat of the film explores the
complexity of human actions and interactions. These people come alive on
the screen, becoming as vivid as anyone we know."
