In 1956 Marilyn Monroe came to Britain to make the film The Prince and The Showgirl at Pinewood Studios with Laurence Olivier. Starring Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh and Eddie Redmayne.
The film is based on the published diaries of Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), who was the third assistant director on The Price and The Showgirl, and who became besotted with Marilyn (Michelle Williams). It is the story of a love triangle between two stars and a backroom boy. Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) cannot come to terms with Marilyn's lateness and method of acting. Marilyn becomes scared of the unpredictability of Olivier and seeks consolation from Clark.
Light-hearted and full of fun, the film also includes impressive performances from Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi and Zoe Wanamaker.
Refreshments will be available before the performance and during the interval.
"The Prince and the Showgirl is wonderfully recreated in this entertaining film"
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian.
