In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole, agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's daughter, Cosette. The fateful decision changes their lives forever.

Set against the backdrop of Victor Hugo’s novel set in 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.  Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole.  When Valjean agrees to care for Cosette (Hathaway), Valjean becomes a force for good in a world where he cannot escape his criminal past.  The world's longest-running musical brings its power to the big screen in this sweeping and spectacular interpretation of Victor Hugo's epic tale.

".....his cast sing live on camera, aiming to replicate the spontaneity and freshness that have bewitched fans of the stage show."  Anthony Quinn The Independent 15.i.13
